You probably don’t think about your hips much… until you go to tie your shoes, twist to grab something off a shelf, or take a golf swing and feel that “tight” stop in your tracks.
Your hips are the center of almost every move you make, from walking and bending to driving power through your golf swing.
At On Point, we’re all about helping you move freely and explore your untapped potential...and hip mobility is one of the biggest keys to doing just that.
Why Hip Mobility Matters
Good hip mobility helps you do a lot more than just swing better. Before you even step on the course, it plays a role in:
- Functional movement: bending, squatting, twisting, and climbing stairs.
- Load distribution: when hips don’t move well, your knees, back, and ankles have to pick up the slack — and that leads to pain.
- Injury prevention: tight hips can cause problems like back pain, groin strains, and even hip joint issues over time.
The Hips & SI Joints — What’s Really Going On
Let’s make this simple:
Your hip joint is a ball-and-socket joint so it’s made to move! It bends, extends, and rotates so you can walk, run, or swing freely. In golf, hip rotation (especially internal rotation) is a big deal. When that’s limited, your body finds ways to cheat (often in your back or knees) and that’s when pain or swing faults show up.
Your SI joints (where your spine meets your pelvis) are built for stability, not big movement. But if your hips aren’t doing their job, your SI joints take on extra stress, especially during powerful moves like a golf swing. That can mean tightness, pain, or that stubborn “locked-up” feeling in your lower back or pelvis.
Hip Mobility & the Golf Swing
In golf, everything works in sequence — hips → torso → arms → club.
That’s called the kinematic sequence, and it’s how power travels from the ground up.
If your hips can’t move well, the chain breaks.
You lose speed, consistency, and distance.
TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) studies have shown that most golfers, even the pros, lack enough internal hip rotation. When you improve that mobility, your swing feels smoother, stronger, and way more efficient.
Your hips aren’t just “another joint.” They’re your power source...the gateway to stability, speed, and control.
Be Curious — Our First Core Value
One of our core values at On Point is Be Curious.
Curiosity is how progress starts. Ask questions like:
- “Why does my swing feel tight?”
- “What’s actually limiting my movement?”
Instead of guessing or trying random stretches you saw online, that’s where we come in.
We assess your body, identify what’s really going on, and build a custom plan that gets you moving better, faster, and pain-free.
Because when you understand what’s holding you back, you can fix it for good… and maybe even add a few extra yards to your drive while you’re at it.
The Bottom Line
Hip mobility matters not just for your golf game, but for life.
When your hips move well, your back feels better, your swing feels smoother, and you move through the day with confidence.
At On Point, we’re here to help you move freely, build strength where you need it, and unlock the potential your body’s been hiding.
Because every bit of mobility you regain is another step toward living pain-free, swinging better, and exploring what your body is truly capable of.
